Ben Sherman
Ben Sherman is an internationally renowned British fashion label that stands out as one of a select few lifestyle brands which are genuinely woven into the fabric of youth culture. The Mod movement that started in the 60's, that is synonomous with the young working classes, italian scooters, northern soul music and an unsurpassed dedication to 'buttoned down' style is still one of the most influential youth movements today, and one to which Ben Sherman is considered to be an integral part.
Ben Sherman's close connection to music has seen their adoption in the 70's and 80's through bands like The Jam and mvements such as Ska, and through the 90's thanks to bands like The Verve, Oasis and Blur and into the present with it's continuing relationship with independent music. 2009 saw the firs Very Important Plectrums charity auction (supported by bands including Kings Of Leon, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand) and their Ben Sherman Unsigned program reaches out to help the best of the new wave of upcoming bands.
Now the brand, thanks to a full lifestyle collection from creative director Mark Maidment is as relevant to New York Hipsters as it is to it's British, working class gentry. The last decade has seen Ben Sherman become a true international force, with flagship stores in Soho New York, and a top tier bespoke suit store on London's legendary Saville Row. It is however Ben Sherman's shirts for which the brand is most famous. Their dedication and passion for shirts (including their famous Oxford button down) has cemented their reputation as world leaders in fashion shirtwear.
